Minor league report: Juuso Riikola, Penguins edge Islanders

Defenseman Juuso Riikola recorded a career-best four assists for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-5 home win against the Bridgeport Islanders at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Forwards Drew O’Connor, Valtteri Puustinen and defenseman Mitch Reinke each had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (33-29-4-4) while goaltender Tommy Nappier made 17 saves on 22 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is their regular season home finale against the rival Hershey Bears on Tuesday, 7:05 p.m.

Goaltender Evan Moyse made 27 saves on 32 shots for the Wheeling Nailers who dropped their regular season finale, 5-0, to the Fort Wayne Komets at at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Wheeling finished the regular season in third place of the ECHL’s Central Division with a 37-31-4-0 record.

Highlights:

The Nailers will open the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs against the Komets. Game 1 will be at Fort Wayne on Friday, 8 p.m.
