Minor league report: Penguins shut out Phantoms; Nailers rout Fuel in Game 2

In their regular season finale, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins got 21 saves from goaltender Ludovic Waeber and shut out the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 2-0, at the PPL Center in Allentown on Saturday.

In his second shutout of the season, Waeber improved his record to 9-7-0.

Forward Valtteri Puustinen recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (39-24-8-1), and forwards Sam Poulin and Radim Zohorna each scored goals.

Highlights:

With the victory, the Penguins secured third place in the Atlantic Division, setting up a matchup with the Phantoms in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.

The schedule for the best-of-three series:

Game 1 – April 24 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 7:05 p.m.

Game 2 – April 26 at Lehigh Valley, 7:05 p.m.

*-Game 3 – April 28 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 5:05 p.m.

Two goals and three assists from forward Jordan Martel led the Wheeling Nailers to a 7-1 rout of the Indy Fuel in Game 2 of a Central Division semifinal series at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

The best-of-seven series is tied, 1-1.

Forward Justin Addamo recorded four assists for Wheeling while forward Evan Vierling contributed two goals.

Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 20 saves on 21 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

Game 3 at Wheeling is scheduled for Monday, 7 p.m.
