Minor league report: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins open preseason with victory

Goaltender Emil Larmi made 21 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who opened their preseason with a 5-1 road win against the Binghamton Devils at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, N.J., on Sunday.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton got goals from forwards Jordy Bellerive, John Gruden, Zach Nastasiuk, Tim Schaller and defenseman Josh Maniscalco.

The Penguins are scheduled to conclude their preseason at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday with a road game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Forward Cody Sylvester had two goals, including one in overtime, as well as an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-3 road win against the Indy Fuel at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Wheeling (3-6-3) also got four assists from forward Patrick Watling, and forward Joshua Winquist added a goal and an assist.

Goaltender Hayden Hawkey made made nine saves to record the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game at home is against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:10 p.m. Thursday.
