Despite canceling fall sports for a majority of its members, the conference is still allowing Army and Navy to pursue competitive opportunities.
“Because the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy are unique in their environments and their missions within higher education, the Council of Presidents agree that the academies may continue to engage in competitive opportunities as considered appropriate by their respective superintendents,” the Patriot League said in a statement.
Although competitive games are canceled, the League announced that conditioning, strength training and other practice opportunities in all sports will be permitted provided health and safety conditions support such activities.
The Patriot League includes Division I Pennsylvania schools Bucknell, Lehigh and Lafayette along with American, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross and Loyola Maryland.
Although the fall season is out of question, the Patriot League said that it would be exploring creative options for fall sports teams, including playing in another semester.
“The League is committed to exploring creative approaches and alternatives to providing future competitive experiences to our fall sport student-athletes, including the possibility of conducting fall sport competition and championships in the second semester,” the league said in a statement.
The league will also make a decision surrounding winter and spring competition at a later date.
The Ivy League canceled its fall sports season last Wednesday, bringing an end to football, soccer, field hockey, volleyball and cross country.
