Penguins announce roster for prospect showcase

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced their roster for the upcoming prospect showcase event it will participate in, Sept. 15-18 in Buffalo.

In total, the Penguins will have 27 players, including forward Sam Poulin, the team’s first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft. Poulin, 22, missed a significant portion of the 2022-23 season while on a leave of absence to attend to his mental health.

Forwards (16) — Corey Andonovski, Atley Calvert, Pano Fimis, Cooper Foster, Jordan Frasca, Ty Glover, Dillon Hamaliuk, Avery Hayes, Sam Houde, Jagger Joshua, Max Namestnikov, Sam Poulin, Matthew Soto, Lukas Svejkovsky, Evan Vierling, Brayden Yager

Defensemen (8) – Mathis Aguilar, Andre Anania, Isaac Belliveau, Ty Higgins, Justin Lee, Cole Moberg, Thimo Nickl, Jack St. Ivany

Goaltenders (3) – Joel Blomqvist, Taylor Gauthier, Michael Simpson

Defensemen Owen Pickering, Nolan Collins and forward Raivis Ansons are all included but are listed as injured. No details on their maladies were provided.

Pickering was the team’s first-round selection (No. 21 overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators are also scheduled to participate in the showcase.

In total, the Penguins are slated to play in three games:

Sept. 15 – Bruins, 3:30 p.m.

Sept. 16 – Senators, noon

Sept. 18 – Sabres, 5 p.m.
