The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Mark Friedman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Friedman has been recalled to the NHL roster twice this season but has yet to dress for a game. Most recently recalled on Dec. 14, he has been a healthy scratch for the past three games.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Friedman has appeared in 19 games and has five points (one goal, four assists).

Note: The Penguins are in the midst of a scheduled four-day break from all team activities — games and practices — for Christmas. They are scheduled to regather for a morning skate at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. prior to a road game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
