The Penguins have assigned forward Sam Poulin and goaltender Filip Lindberg to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Poulin, a first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in 2019, appeared in two games this preseason and recorded two assists. He spent all of the 2021-22 season — his first as a professional — with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and appeared in 72 games while posting 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists).

The 21-year-old left-hander is entering the second year of a three-year-entry-level contract that carries a salary cap hit of $863,333.

Lindberg appeared in one game this preseason and had a 1-0-0 record, a 2.08 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.

As a first-year professional last season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the 23-year-old Lindberg was hobbled for most of the campaign due to a left ankle injury. In seven AHL games, Lindberg had a 4-2-0 record, a 2.76 goals against average and .915 save percentage. He is entering the second-year of a two-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $925,000.

Both players are exempt from waivers for any transactions involving Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Following these transactions, the Penguins’ training camp roster now has 24 players, one more than the regular season limit of 23. According to Cap Friendly, the Penguins are currently $1,555,175 above the NHL’s salary cap ceiling of $82.5 million.

NHL teams must have their season-opening rosters set and be compliant with the cap by Monday, 5 p.m.
