Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson leads Sweden past Slovakia

Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson had a goal and two assists for Sweden, which closed out the preliminary round with a 6-1 defeat of Slovakia at Ostravar Arena in Vítkovice, Czechia on Tuesday.
Stationed on the second pairing with fellow Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson, Karlsson logged 22:03 of ice time on 25 shifts and had a game-high nine shots.
Pettersson recorded 17:14 of ice time on 25 shifts and had one shot.

Sweden completed the preliminary round with a 7-0 record and will face Finland in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, 2:20 p.m. (EDT).
Penguins forward Jesse Puljujarvi was held without a point for Finland in a 3-1 loss to Switzerland at the o2 Arena in Prague.
Opening the contest on the right wing of the third line, Puljujarvi had 13:14 of ice time on 17 shifts and had one shot.
Fellow Penguins forward Valtteri Puustinen was scratched for Finland.

Penguins forward Michael Bunting was held without a point for Canada in a 4-3 overtime win against Czechia at the O2 Arena.
Opening the contest on the left wing of the fourth line, Bunting logged 13:05 of ice time on 16 shifts and had one shot.

Penguins forward prospect Raivis Ansons was held without a point for Latvia in a 6-3 loss to the United States at Ostravar Arena.
Skating as an extra forward in an irregular lineup of 13 forwards and five defensemen, Ansons logged 5:20 of ice time.
Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic dressed as a backup and did not play for the United States.

Latvia finished the tournament in ninth place.
Penguins defensive prospect Thimo Nickl was held without a point for Austria which lost to Great Britain, 4-2, at the O2 Arena.
Stationed on Austria’s first pairing, Nickl logged 17:48 of ice time on 25 shifts.

Austria finished the tournament in 10th place.
Wheeling Nailers forward Justin Addamo had an assist for France in a 6-3 loss to Germany at Ostravar Arena.
Serving as France’s third line center, Addamo, a Robert Morris alumni, had 15:11 of ice time on 22 shifts and was 6 for 11 (54.5%) on faceoffs. He also recorded two penalty minutes.
Highlights:
France finished the tournament in 14th place.
