Penguins expected to start goaltender Tristan Jarry against Rangers
The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Tristan Jarry for Sunday’s home game against the New York Rangers at PPG Paints Arena.
His status was announced via a statement from the team approximately two hours before the game.
This season, Jarry has appeared in 34 games and has a 19-7-6 record, a 2.89 goals against average, a .912 save percentage and one shutout.
In the lone meeting between the two teams to this point in the season, a 3-2 home win by the Penguins on Dec. 22, Jarry made 26 saves on 28 shots.
Notes:
• Penguins forward Ryan Poehling, currently designated to long-term injured reserve, remains sidelined due to an undisclosed ailment.
• Penguins forward Jake Guentzel has 399 career points.
• The Rangers are slated to start goaltender Jaroslav Halak. In 19 games this season, Halak has an 8-8-2 record, a 2.80 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
A longtime nemesis of the Penguins, Halak has faced the Penguins in 25 career games and has a 13-10-2 record in those contests, as well as a 2.65 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and one shutout.
• Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere has played in 199 career games.
• Sunday’s contest is scheduled to start at 4:22 p.m. The NHL has falsely advertised it as beginning at 4 p.m.
