In 25 games this season, Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has 22 points (five goals, 17 assists).

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was fined $5,000 by the NHL for slashing Boston Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei during Friday’s game.

The league announced the fine — as well as an identical fine to Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov — on Saturday.

At 19:38 of the first period of the Penguins’ 2-1 road win at TD Garden in Boston, Zadorov, seated on his team’s bench, poked Malkin in the back with his stick. Malkin reacted by swinging his stick at the bench wall, striking Lohrei, also seated.

Malkin was assessed a minor penalty for slashing on the sequence while Zadorov was given a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

This is the fourth time Malkin has been fined in his 19-year career. He has also been suspended twice.

All money from the fines goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
