Penguins' Kasperi Kapanen to miss preseason game against Red Wings
Penguins forward Kasperi Kapanen will miss Tuesday’s home preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings because of an undisclosed ailment.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Kapanen’s status following Tuesday’s morning skate at PPG Paints Arena and noted it is not believed to be serious.
During a 3-2 overtime home preseason win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, Kapanen had three shots on eight attempts while logging 20 minutes, 42 seconds of ice time on 22 shifts.
In 79 games last season, Kapanen had 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) while averaging 14:32 of ice time per contest.
Notes:
• Penguins forward Jeff Carter was deemed as “day to day” due to an undisclosed injury he suffered during an intra-squad scrimmage in Cranberry on Saturday.
• Per Sullivan, goaltender Tristan Jarry is scheduled to start the game and will be replaced close to the midway point by Casey DeSmith.

• The Penguins’ top power-play unit included, Crosby, Guentzel, Letang, Malkin and Rust. The second power-play unit involved Petry, Rakell, Smith, Zohorna and Zucker.
• Defensive prospect Owen Pickering participated in the morning skate, wearing a white non-contact jersey. The Penguins’ first-round draft pick (No. 21 overall) in July’s draft, Pickering has been hobbled by an undisclosed injury since the team’s rookie camp earlier this month.
• The Red Wings will be sending a mostly younger lineup of with several prospects and minor leaguers for Tuesday’s game:
