An undisclosed injury has sidelined forward Ryan Poehling for the past three games.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ryan Poehling was activated from injured reserve prior to his team’s home contest against the New Jersey Devils at PPG Paints Arena on Friday.

An undisclosed injury has sidelined Poehling for the past three games.

Speaking after an optional morning skate Friday, Poehling indicated the ailment had hindered him for a handful of weeks.

“The best I’ve felt in two, three weeks,” Poehling said. “So that’s very promising stuff. Mentally, I feel like that’s a big weight off my shoulder. It just feels good to have that progression.”

Typically deployed on the fourth line and the penalty kill, Poehling has appeared in 30 games this season and has eight points (four goals, four assists) while averaging 11 minutes, 15 seconds of ice time.

In a corresponding transaction, the team assigned forward Drake Caggiula to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Recalled Wednesday, Caggiula was a healthy scratch during Wednesday’s 5-4 overtime home loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Caggiula has appeared in three NHL games this season and has no points while averaging 7:28 of ice time.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Caggiula has played in 23 games and has scored 14 points (four goals, 14 assists).
