Forward Sidney Crosby recorded his 1,034th career assist and surpassed former teammate Mario Lemieux as the Pittsburgh Penguins’ all-time leader in assists during a game against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena on Sunday.

The Penguins’ current captain recorded a primary assist on a power-play goal by forward Michael Bunting at 1:36 of the second period. That score supplied the Penguins with a 2-0 lead.

Crosby achieved the mark in 1,310 games. Lemieux, the Penguins’ previous captain, appeared in 915 contests during his spectacular career.
