Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry is scheduled to return to the lineup and start Monday’s home game against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Jarry’s status following a morning skate Monday.
Currently designated to injured reserve, Jarry has not played since Jan. 22 due to an undisclosed injury. In total, Jarry has missed 16 of the past 18 games due to various injuries.
A two-time All-Star, Jarry has appeared in 27 games this season and has a 16-5-5 record, a .921 save percentage, a .921 save percentage and one shutout.
Notes:
• In order to make room for Jarry on the active roster, the Penguins will presumably need to assign reserve goaltender Dustin Tokarski to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Recalled on Feb. 4 under emergency conditions, Tokarski has appeared in four NHL games this season and has a 1-2-0 record, a 3.44 goals against averaged and an .897 save percentage.
• The Penguins staged a morning skate Monday and had full attendance, including all of their injured players.
In addition to Jarry, defensemen Mark Friedman and Jan Rutta and forward Ryan Poehling were present, though Friedman wore a white jersey to signal no contact.
Poehling and Friedman have each missed the past three games due to undisclosed ailments. Rutta is current designated to long-term injured reserve due to an undisclosed malady that has kept him sidelined for the past 13 games.
All three are expected to remain sidelined for Monday’s contest.
• The Penguins’ lines and pairs during the morning skate were:
59 Jake Guentzel – 87 Sidney Crosby – 67 Rickard Rakell
16 Jason Zucker – 71 Evgeni Malkin – 17 Bryan Rust
23 Brock McGinn – 77 Jeff Carter – 42 Kasperi Kapanen
10 Drew O’Connor – 53 Teddy Blueger – 15 Josh Archibald
8 Brian Dumoulin – 58 Kris Letang
28 Marcus Pettersson – 26 Jeff Petry
73 P.O Joseph – 2 Chad Ruhwedel
• The top power-play unit included Crosby, Guentzel, Letang, Malkin and Rakell. The second power-play unit involved Carter, Kapanen, Petry, Rust and Zucker.
• On Monday morning, the Islanders announced forward Mathew Barzal, one of that team’s top players, will be sidelined indefinitely due to an undisclosed injury.
In 58 games this season, Barzal has 51 points (14 goals, 37 assists) while averaging 18:42 of ice time per contest.
• The Islanders are expected to start All-Star goaltender Ilya Sorokin. In 42 games this season, Sorokin has an 18-17-5 record, a 2.44 goals against average, a .923 save percentage and a league-best five shutouts.
-With Barzal hobbled, the Islanders recalled rookie forward Arnaud Durandeau from Bridgeport of the AHL on Sunday. He is expected to make his NHL debut on Monday.
