Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen makes a save on the Penguins’ Bryan Rust in the first period Wednesday Oct. 16, 2024 at PPG Paints Arena.

Following the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Tuesday morning skate, coach Mike Sullivan revealed that forward Bryan Rust would be out week-to-week with an unspecified injury.

Rust had left mid-game Oct. 26 during a 4-3 road loss to the Vancouver Canucks due to injury.

During the second period of Tuesday’s home game vs. the Minnesota Wild, the Penguins announced Rust had been placed on injured reserve.

The 32-year-old had previously missed Pittsburgh’s first two games of the year with an undisclosed injury.

In eight games played this year, he has three goals with an assist, factoring in as the Penguins’ first-line right wing with Sidney Crosby.

Per NHL rules, placement on injured reserve makes a player ineligible to compete for at least seven days.
