Penguins goaltending prospects Joel Blomqvist and Calle Clang have been selected to the IIHF World Junior Championship tournament rosters of Finland and Sweden, respectively.

Blomqvist, a second-round selection (No. 52 overall) in this year’s draft, has primarily played for Hermes in Finland’s second-tier Mestis league this season. In nine games, Blomqvist has a 3-3-3 record along with a 2.56 goals against average, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.

Before being assigned to Hermes, Blomqvist appeared in two games with Karpat of the top-tier Liiga. With Karpat, Blomqvist had a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

Clang, a third-round selection (No. 77 overall) in this year’s draft, has played in eight games with Kristianstads of Sweden’s second-tier HockeyAllsvensken league. He has a 4-4-0 record along with a 1.81 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.

The tournament is scheduled to be held Dec. 25 through Jan. 5 in Edmonton’s Rogers Place, the same venue which hosted most of the NHL’s postseason tournament in August and September because of the coronavirus pandemic.
