The Penguins acquired forward Emil Bemstrom in a trade on Feb. 22.

The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Emil Bemstrom to a one-year contract worth $775,000.

The 25-year-old was a pending restricted free agent but did not receive a qualifying offer by the NHL’s deadline of 5 p.m. on Sunday, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

A right-handed shot, Bemstrom (6-foot, 195 pounds) joined the Penguins via a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Feb. 22. Appearing in 24 games with the Penguins, Bemstrom totaled five points (three goals, two assists) while averaging 8 minutes, 46 seconds of ice time.
