Penguins re-sign forward Sam Lafferty to two-year deal

The Penguins have re-signed forward Sam Lafferty to a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $750,000.

A native of Hollidaysburg, Lafferty was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on Friday. He just completed a two-year entry-level contract with had a salary cap hit of $767,500.

Lafferty, 25, appeared in 50 games as a rookie in 2019-20 and recorded 13 points (six goals, seven assists).

Capable of playing center or wing, Lafferty, a right-handed shot, was a fourth-round pick of the Penguins in 2014.

Following this transaction, the Penguins have $3,968,158 of salary cap space with 12 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies under contract entering the 2020-21 season according to Cap Friendly. Their only remaining unsigned restricted free agent is forward Anthony Angello.
