In 2013, the Pittsburgh Penguins used a second-round draft pick to select their goaltender of the future.

In 2023, they ensured Tristan Jarry will remain their goaltender for the foreseeable future.

On Saturday, the team re-signed its starting goaltender to a considerable five-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $5.375 million.

Jarry, 28, appeared in 47 games last season and posted a 24-13-7 record, a 2.90 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and two shutouts. Various injuries, however, hobbled him during the second half of the season.

The 44th overall selection of the 2013 NHL Draft, Jarry has been the team’s starting goaltender for the past two seasons, succeeding Matt Murray in the role.

Jarry just completed the third year of a three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $3.5 million.
