BOSTON — The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled goaltender Dustin Tokarski from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

This transaction comes one day after starting goaltender Tristan Jarry suffered an undisclosed injury during the first period of a 2-1 road loss to the Boston Bruins at Fenway Park in the NHL’s Winter Classic.

Jarry left the contest at 15:30 of the first period and was replaced by backup Casey DeSmith.

In 18 AHL games this season, Tokarski (6-foot, 198 pounds) has an 8-6-4 record, a 2.22 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and one shutout.

Tokarski, 33, was signed to a one-year, two-way contract this past offseason and carries a salary cap hit of $775,000. This is his first recall to the Penguins’ NHL roster.

A fifth-round pick (No. 122 overall) in 2008 by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tokarski is in his 14th professional season and has a fair amount of experience at the NHL level.

Overall, he has spent parts of eight seasons in the NHL with the Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres. In 76 career games, he has a 22-32-12 record, 3.14 goals against average, .910 save percentage and two shutouts.

Notes: To make room for Tokarski on the active roster, defenseman Kris Letang was designated as “non-roster” as he takes a leave of absence to attend to his family in Montreal after the death of his father, Claude Fouquet. … The Penguins had a scheduled day off on Tuesday.
