The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled reserve goaltender Dustin Tokarski from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League under emergency conditions Saturday.

This marks the third time Tokarski has been summoned to the NHL roster this season.

Appearing in two NHL games this season, Tokarski has a 1-1-0 record, a 2.67 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Tokarski has played in 21 games and has a 9-7-4 record, a 2.31 goals against average, a .920 save percentage and one shutout.

Recalls under emergency conditions allow teams liberties with regards to roster or salary cap limits to ensure a full traditional lineup of 12 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders is available.

Before Saturday, Tokarski’s most recent recall came Jan. 25, one day after starting goaltender Tristan Jarry suffered an undisclosed — and still unexplained — injury prior to a 7-6 home shootout win against the Florida Panthers.

After participating in that day’s morning skate and being proclaimed as the starter for the contest by coach Mike Sullivan, Jarry apparently became hobbled during the afternoon and was unable to play.

By Jan. 25, Tokarski was recalled and Sullivan announced Jarry would sit for the team’s final two games before a lengthy nine-day break in the schedule for the team’s bye week as well as the All-Star Game event to allow him ample time to recovery from his ailment.

Since then, no update on Jarry’s status has been provided.

The team is scheduled to resume practicing Sunday at its facility in Cranberry on Sunday. The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
