The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forwards Avery Hayes and Rem Pitlick and defenseman Ty Smith from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) Tuesday.

Pitlick, 26, is entering the second year of a two-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $1.1 million. Acquired from the Montreal Canadiens via the blockbuster trade that also brought defenseman Erik Karlsson to the Penguins this summer, the left-handed Pitlick has appeared in two games this preseason with no points and three shots.

Smith, 23, is signed to a one-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $775,000. In two preseason games, he has no points and one shot.

Pitlick and Smith each cleared waivers on Friday before being assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
