Penguins recall Tristan Jarry, assign Joel Blomqvist
The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled goaltender Tristan Jarry from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Monday.
In a corresponding transaction, rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Jarry has largely struggled this season and, as a result, he has split the 2024-25 season between the NHL and AHL rosters.
In 22 NHL games, he has an 8-8-4 record, a 3.31 goals against average and an .886 save percentage.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jarry has appeared in 12 AHL games and has posted a 6-5-1 record, a 2.67 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout.
Jarry was waived by the Penguins on Jan. 15. After going unclaimed, he was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the next day.
The 29-year-old is in the second year of a five-year contract with a salary cap hit of $5.375 million.
As for Blomqvist, he has also faced struggles at the NHL level as the season has progressed.
Monday’s transaction comes one day after he made 27 saves on 33 shots in a 6-5 home overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Overall, he has appeared in 15 NHL games this season and has a 4-9-1 record, a 3.81 goals against average and an .885 save percentage.
An All-Star at the AHL level last season, Blomqvist has appeared in 15 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2024-25 and posted a 7-5-4 record, a 2.93 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and one shutout.
Blomqvist, 23, is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $886,667.
These transactions happened in advance of a three-game road trip beginning with a contest against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
