Phillies' big inning drops Pirates in spring training game
Ji-Man Choi twice drove in Ke’Bryan Hayes but it wasn’t enough for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Philadelphia Phillies used a four-run third inning for a 4-3 win in a Grapefruit League game at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Hayes tripled to center to score Canaan Smith-Njigba, and Choi drove in Hayes with a sacrifice fly.
Rich Hill made his first start of spring training and allowed one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings while throwing 23 of his 37 pitches for strikes.
The Phillies took the lead in the third against lefty Jarlin Garcia as Kyle Schwarber singled to score Jhailyn Ortiz and Alec Bohm hit a two-run shot to right-center to make it 3-2.
Rob Zastryzny inherited two runners and gave up a single to Scott Kingery to score Edmundo Sosa to make it 4-2.
Hayes reached on an error and scored on a double by Choi to cut it to 4-3 in the sixth.
