Pirates designated hitter Andrew McCutchen bats against the Brewers on July 1 at PNC Park.

Andrew McCutchen is back with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rodolfo Castro is headed to the minors.

The Pirates made a pair of roster moves before Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, activating McCutchen (right elbow inflammation) from the 10-day injured list and optioning Castro to Triple-A Indianapolis.

McCutchen, 36, is slashing .268/.383/.425 with 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 28 RBIs in 74 games while serving primarily as designated hitter. He was amid an 0-for-17 funk over his final four games.

Castro, 24, was batting .228/.317/.355 with seven doubles, six homers and 22 RBIs in 78 games but had lost the starting job at shortstop and was playing sparingly before his demotion. He was 1 for 14 in his final seven games and hadn’t taken an at-bat since July 6.

The Pirates also added right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester to the taxi squad in anticipation of his major-league debut Monday night, when the 2019 first-round draft pick is scheduled to start against the Cleveland Guardians at PNC Park.
