Pirates place C Tyler Heineman, LHP Dillon Peters on IL, add C Taylor Davis, LHP Eric Stout
Minutes before Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced roster moves.
The Pirates placed catcher Tyler Heineman (right groin) on the 10-day injured list and selected the contract of catcher Taylor Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis. Heineman left Wednesday’s game after experiencing discomfort while trying to beat out a grounder to second base.
The Pirates also placed left-handed reliever Dillon Peters (left elbow inflammation) on the 15-day IL and recalled lefty Eric Stout from Indianapolis. Peters allowed three hits and one walk with one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings in the 8-7 walk-off win over the Brewers on Wednesday night.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Davis was part of a three-way competition for the backup catcher job in spring training after playing two games for the Pirates late last September, going 2 for 3 at Philadelphia and drawing a walk at Cincinnati. The 32-year-old played 20 games over three seasons with the Chicago Cubs from 2017-19, batting .244 (10 for 41) with one homer and seven RBIs.
The 6-3, 205-pound Stout made two relief appearances for the Pirates this season, striking out two batters and hitting two others.
