The Pittsburgh Pirates placed starting left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter on the 15-day injured list with left triceps tendinitis Sunday, then shook up a bullpen that was depleted by his injury.

Falter, who is 4-7 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 90 1/3 innings over 17 starts, was removed from the game in the third inning of Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Mets. He joins starting pitchers Marco Gonzales and Quinn Priester — both on rehabilitation assignments with Triple-A Indianapolis — and Jared Jones on the injured list.

The Pirates selected the contract of right-handed reliever Brent Honeywell Jr. from Indianapolis. Honeywell was 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA and 1.36 WHIP, seven saves and 33 strikeouts in 39 innings over 31 appearances with Indianapolis this season.

The 29-year-old Honeywell attended spring training camp with the Pirates as a nonroster invitee. Last year, he made 40 appearances between the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox, going a combined 2-4 with a 4.82 ERA and 1.45 WHIP, 45 strikeouts and a .260 batting average against in 52 1/3 innings.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated left-handed reliever Justin Bruihl for assignment. They also activated catcher Henry Davis (concussion symptoms) from his rehab assignment and optioned him to Indy.
