The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their bullpen shakeup Friday when they placed left-handed reliever Rob Zastryzny on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation and selected righty reliever Carmen Mlodzinski from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Mlodzinski, 24, the 31st overall pick in the Competitive Balance A round out of South Carolina in 2020, is ranked the Pirates’ No. 20 prospect by Baseball America and No. 23 by MLB Pipeline and could become the first of Ben Cherington’s draft picks as Pirates general manager to make his major-league debut.
A converted starter with a four-seam and two-seam fastball, slider and changeup, the 24-year-old Mlodzinski was 2-2 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with one save, 31 strikeouts and 11 walks in 25 2/3 innings over 19 appearances for Indianapolis this season. He posted a 2.16 ERA in his final 12 appearances and was scored upon twice in that span.

Zastryzny is headed to the injured list for the second time this season. He was 1-0 with a 5.29 ERA and 1.94 WHIP with as many walks (13) as strikeouts in 17 innings over 18 appearances for the Pirates.
The Pirates now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
