Pirates left fielder Bryan Reynolds rounds the bases after hitting a home run during the fifth inning against the Diamondbacks on Friday, May 19, 2023, at PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered another blow amid their nine-game losing streak when they placed outfielder Bryan Reynolds on the 10-day injured list Thursday with low back inflammation.

Reynolds leads the Pirates in hits (72), doubles (20), RBIs (40) and batting average (.279) and ranks second in OPS (.823), triples (three) and third in home runs (eight) in 68 games this season.

Reynolds had missed the Pirates’ past two games, so his IL timeline is retroactive to June 20. Reynolds was placed on the IL last season from July 11-25 with a right oblique strain.

Designated hitter Andrew McCutchen, who also missed the past two games with right elbow soreness, is back in the lineup for the Pirates against the Miami Marlins.

The Pirates recalled right-handed reliever Cody Bolton from Triple-A Indianapolis, marking his third stint in the majors this season. He also was with the team from April 26-May 9 and May 28-June 3.

Bolton, 25, has a 12.38 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in eight innings over five relief appearances for the Pirates. He allowed two hits and four walks with a pair of strikeouts in his last outing, a 7-5 win over St. Louis on June 2, before being optioned to Indianapolis the next day.

Bolton was 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and a .213 batting average in 18 appearances for Indy this season, including one start.

The Pirates also announced that first baseman/designated hitter Ji-Man Choi (left Achilles tendon strain) will begin a rehabilitation assignment Thursday night with Double-A Altoona.
