Pirates place RF Henry Davis on IL with right hand strain, recall INF Vinny Capra from Indy
Henry Davis is headed to the injured list for the first time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who placed the rookie right fielder/catcher on the 10-day IL with a right hand strain.
The No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, the 23-year-old Davis was batting .213/.306/.339 with eight doubles, five home runs and 18 RBIs in 51 games for the Pirates since being promoted June 19.
Davis was struggling in the field and at the plate, committing four errors and batting .158 (9 for 57) in August and .196 (22 for 112) over the past 31 games.
The Pirates recalled infielder Vinny Capra, who will be active for Monday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park. Capra batted .326/.421/.462 with 10 doubles and 25 RBIs in 42 games at Triple-A Indianapolis.
This is the second stint with the Pirates for Capra, who was acquired from Toronto in a trade that sent catcher Tyler Heineman to the Blue Jays on April 30. Capra went 0 for 4 in two games against Milwaukee on Aug. 3-4 before being optioned to Indianapolis.
