Prospect Watch
Termarr Johnson
Position: 2B/SS
Height: 5-8 Weight: 190
Level: Double-A Altoona
Notable: The 20-year-old Johnson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, became the third-youngest player in Curve history (behind Jose Tabata and Andrew McCutchen) when he was promoted last August and opened this season as the youngest player in the Eastern League.
Johnson was considered one of the top prep hitters in a generation and is ranked the Pirates’ No. 4 prospect and No. 79 overall by MLB Pipeline. He batted only .237 last year in a season split between High-A Greensboro and Altoona, but his 85 walks were the ninth-most by a minor-league player.
After playing in the Arizona Fall League, where he drew more walks (14) than strikeouts (11) and posted a .444 on-base percentage and .919 OPS in 11 games, Johnson starred for Team USA in the WSBC Premier 12 in Tokyo. He batted .310 (9 for 29) with a .414 OBP and .843 OPS in the tournament, where the Americans finished third.
Johnson reached base safely in 13 of his first 18 games with the Curve. Through his first four games this season, Johnson was 4 of 16 (.250) with a double, a home run, three RBIs, three walks and four strikeouts. He has a compact swing that packs some power, as evidence by his first homer — a 392-foot, three-run shot Tuesday at Akron.
