The Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Jason Delay on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right knee inflammation, making room on the active roster for newly acquired catcher Joey Bart.

Delay went 0 for 3 with a walk and a sacrifice in the Pirates’ 9-7 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday, the only game he’s played this season. The move was retroactive to Monday.

The Pirates acquired Bart from the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday in exchange for right-handed pitcher Austin Strickland, a 2023 eighth-round pick.

Bart, 27, was selected by the Giants with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. A right-handed hitter, Bart batted .219/.288/.335 with 16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 38 RBIs in 162 games over four seasons in San Francisco.

He split last season between the majors and Triple-A Sacramento, batting .207 with five doubles and five RBIs in 30 games with the Giants and .248/.357/.393 with 12 doubles, six homers and 28 RBIs with the River Cats. Bart was designated for assignment on Sunday.
