Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Angel Perdomo had his three-game suspension reduced to two games via an agreement between MLB and the players association.

The 6-foot-8 left-hander drew a three-game suspension after being ejected Tuesday for hitting San Diego Padres star Manny Machado in the back one pitch after giving up a home run to Juan Soto in the seventh inning of a 5-1 loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton also was ejected for arguing with umpires about Perdomo’s ejection, which came without a warning. Shelton received a one-game suspension, which he served in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the Padres.

Perdomo served the first game of his suspension Wednesday and was expected to sit out Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park. The Pirates were not permitted to replace him on the active roster, leaving them with 25 players instead of the usual 26.

“The fact that we had an off day and we have an off day on the back side of it, that makes it better,” Shelton said, noting that the Pirates are off on Monday. “That’s probably the easiest way to do it. If we were in a stretch and we were playing and we were losing somebody for three games … One of the games we’ve already played and we didn’t need to use him, the fact that we’re coupled in with off days helps us out a ton.”
