Pirates shuffle bullpen, adding LHP Cam Vieaux, optioning RHP Yohan Ramirez
The Pittsburgh Pirates continued to shuffle their bullpen, making a move before Sunday’s game to add a left-hander to the mix.
The Pirates selected the contract of lefty Cam Vieaux and optioned right-hander Yohan Ramirez. To make room on the 40-man roster, they designated catcher Jose Godoy for assignment.
Vieaux, 28, had a 14.40 ERA and 3.00 WHIP with eight strikeouts in five innings over five appearances for the Pirates, though those numbers are a bit misleading. Vieaux had a 2.25 ERA before giving up seven earned runs on six hits and three walks on 56 pitches in the eighth inning of a 19-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 1.
Ramirez, 27, had a 6.43 ERA in seven innings over six appearances.
Godoy, 27, was 0 for 7 in five games after being claimed off waivers from Minnesota on July 5, a day after Tyler Heineman went on the injured list with a groin strain.
