Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones, who has been shut down for at least two weeks after going on the injured list July 4 with a right lat strain, will continue his rehabilitation in Bradenton, Fla., general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday on his radio show on 93.7 FM.
Yet Cherington said he is confident Jones will pitch again this season.
“It will be a little bit of time (before he returns),” Cherington said. “He will start throwing pretty soon coming out of the All-Star break. He’ll get built back up (in Florida). Our expectation is that he is back starting games for us in the major leagues as we keep playing this thing and we get into August and September.”
Jones has started 16 games in his rookie season, compiling a 5-6 record, 3.56 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 98 strikeouts and 27 walks in 91 innings.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Bailey Falter (left triceps tendinitis) may engage in “some sort of live or simulated situation over the break,” Cherington said. “We expect we’ll see him (return) pretty soon.”
Cherington said left-handed relief pitcher Ryan Borucki, who went on the IL on April 7 after four appearances, is “doing well, making progress” on his rehab assignment in Triple-A Indianapolis.
“He’ll pitch at least another time, maybe more than another time on rehab coming out of the break,” Cherington said. “We’re basically replicating spring training.”|
