Pitt-Johnstown Hall of Fame to induct Carrie Ferguson, Isaac Greeley
Carrie Ferguson was a standout basketball at Greensburg Salem in the late 1980s, and Isaac Greeley is an assistant wrestling coach at Burrell.
They will be two of the five members of the 2019 Hall of Fame class at Pitt-Johnstown. The others to be honored April 6 are Matt Lushko (1997, men’s basketball), Larry Robey (1989, wrestling) and J.J. Thomas (2002, baseball).
Ferguson, a 1987 graduate of Greensburg Salem, was a star at UPJ (1987-91) where she was a 1990-91 honorable mention Kodak All-American and was part of UPJ’s women’s basketball team that played in two NCAA Tournaments and won a regional title in 1987-88.
It was her a senior year (1990-91) that Ferguson received her recognition. She was selected as the Mideast Conference Co-Player of the Year and the conference tournament’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season.
She also collected her third straight Mountain Cat Classic All-Tournament honor and her second consecutive first-team all-conference honor.
Along with setting the record for rebounds in a season, she also broke the Pitt-Johnstown record for free throws made in a season (137) and free throws made and attempted in career (519).
She is tied for second in free throws in a season, and third in free throws made and attempted in a career.
Ferguson scored 1,344 career points and ranks 13th on the Lady Cat all-time scoring list, and her 911 career rebounds are tied with Carrie Thomas (1995-99) for second all-time.
She teaches in the Fox Chapel School District.
“Being inducted into the Pitt-Johnstown Athletics Hall of Fame brings great pride as it serves as an avenue to share my own passion as a scholar-athlete and instill positive character traits in my son, Zachary,” Ferguson said in a release. “Furthermore, after spending more than 20 years working in education, I see the value of these qualities as my former students have gone on to excel in their own ambitions.
“My hope is that achieving this recognition, along with my colleagues in the 2019 induction class, will serve as a platform to further motivate and encourage my son and my students to mirror some of these qualities and attain greatness in their future endeavors. Thank you for this honor.”
Greeley, a Port Allegany grad, was a member of UPJ’s National Championship team and was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American from 1994-99.
He is also the founder The Mat Factory Wrestling Club in Lower Burrell, a facility that offers wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA programs. He is the co-founder of the Bruno Iorfido Wrestling Camp with Sean Lathrop in his hometown of Port Allegany, and a member of the Pitt-Johnstown Wrestling Golf Outing committee.
Greeley has served as an assistant wrestling coach at Burrell High School for the past 15 years.
“I am truly honored to be recognized by the Pitt-Johnstown Athletics Hall of Fame committee,” Greeley said. “My short time as a Pitt-Johnstown student-athlete gave me the foundation to become successful in all facets of life and for that, I am forever grateful.”
