Plum's Jamie Seneca helps Gannon soccer advance in PSAC Tournament
The Gannon women’s soccer team’s potent offense was on display in a 4-2 victory over Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Nov. 6, and Plum graduate Jamie Seneca played a big part in the Golden Knights’ victory.
Seneca, a junior midfielder, capped off the scoring for Gannon with her third goal of the season in the 71st minute.
She dribbled past a defender on the left wing and scored from 10 yards out.
It was the fifth goal scored by the two teams in a span of less than nine minutes.
Seneca finished the game with two shots and played 89 of the 90 minutes.
A starter for all 19 of Gannon’s games through the PSAC quarterfinal, she also scored goals in back-to-back wins over Pitt-Johnstown and Edinboro on Oct. 7 and Oct. 11, respectively.
The trio of tallies this season put her at eight for her career. She collected a pair of goals as a freshman in 2021 and three more last year.
Gannon (14-3-2) advanced last Friday’s semifinals against Kutztown. The game was to be played past the deadline for this week’s edition.
Shannon Small
Senior Shannon Small, a Plum grad, helped the Duquesne women’s bowling team go 4-3 in the first of three Northeast Conference (NEC) competitions the weekend of Nov. 12 in North Brunswick, N.J.
The Dukes were 21-12 overall through three competitions.
Small garnered a top-10 finish in the conference event. She opened with a 201 game and compiled 1,351 total pins (193.0 average).
She was one of three Dukes bowlers to compete in all seven games.
Through the three overall competitions, Small owned 156 strikes through 330 frames, a 47.3 strike percentage, and picked up 117 of 174 spares (113 of 143 makeable spares).
Small earned first-team All-NEC honors last year and second-team laurels in 2021-22. She was selected the NEC Rookie of the Year after the 2020-21 season.
Reed Martin
Fighting Scot junior defensive back and punter Reed Martin, a Plum grad, was one of four Edinboro players to earn PSAC West All-Conference recognition, the conference announced last week.
The selection was Martin’s second to the first team as a punter. He finished the year with an average of 39.9 yards per boot. He put 19 of his 51 punts inside the 20 and had nine punts of more than 50 yards.
He led the Edinboro punt team that ranked second in the PSAC in net punting at 38.0 yards per punt.
Martin, in 11 games, also collected 26 tackles and 2.5 tackles for a loss.
Last year, Martin picked up first-team American Football Coaches Association All-American honors for his punting and also made 40 tackles and recorded an interception on defense.
Gino Proviano
Gino Proviano, a captain as a junior this fall for the Division I Long Island women’s soccer team, appeared in all 17 matches, starting 14, and tallied a pair of goals and four assists.
She registered 44 shots in her 17 games.
She scored the Sharks’ first goal of the season, a game-winning tally in a 3-0 triumph over St. Peter’s.
Proviano assisted on the game-winning goal in LIU’s 2-1 win over VMI on Sept. 10.
She also provided assists on both goals in a 2-1 comeback victory over Stonehill in the NEC opener four days later.
Proviano’s two goals and four assists this season give her four goals and eight assists for her career.
Long Island finished 7-8-2 overall and 3-6-1 in NEC play.
Dannika Susko
A freshman on the Pitt-Johnstown women’s volleyball team, Plum grad Dannika Susko enjoyed a strong first season with the Mountain Cats.
The 5-foot-11 middle hitter helped Pitt-Johnstown score a 3-2 victory over Edinboro in PSAC action Oct. 7 with a team-best 14 kills to go along with two blocks.
She tallied eight kills in a sweep of Slippery Rock on Oct. 13, and recorded seven kills and a block in a sweep of Cal (Pa.) on Oct. 14.
She played in 16 matches, starting 13, and finished with 73 kills, 20 blocks and 85.5 points.
Luke Gildea
Plum graduate Luke Gildea started all 17 games for the Slippery Rock men’s soccer team.
He finished with two goals on 17 shots and added four assists for The Rock, which ended the season 5-8-4 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC.
He scored in back-to-back 3-0 conference wins over Cal (Pa.) and Pitt-Johnstown and added an assist in the UPJ triumph.
SRU was 4-0-1 when Gildea tallied a point or more and 1-8-3 when he was held off the scoresheet.
Gildea owns 29 starts in his three collegiate seasons.
Tyler Schrecongost
Tyler Schrecongost, a Plum grad and freshman midfielder on the Cal (Pa.) men’s soccer team, collected a pair of goals in 13 games played this season.
He produced his first collegiate tally in a 5-1 win over D’Youville on Sept. 20 and found the back of the net again in a 4-2 loss to Pitt-Johnstown on Oct. 28.
The goals came on his only two shots of the season.
Lucas Pittman
Lucas Pittman, a freshman forward for the Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team, tallied a pair of goals and fired off 15 shots over 16 games in his first collegiate season.
The Plum grad added two assists to finish fourth on the team in points with six.
Both goals and one of the two assists came in an 8-1 rout of LaRoche College on Sept. 23.
