Forward Sidney Crosby spent two seasons with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic in the mid-2000s.

The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) has named its rookie of the year trophy after Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby.

That league announced the naming on Tuesday. Previously, the award did not have a formal name.

Crosby won the award during the 2003-04 season while skating with Rimouski Oceanic. In 59 games that campaign, Crosby posted 135 points (54 goals, 81 assists).

Crosby spent two seasons with Rimouski before being chosen by the Penguins with the first overall selection in the 2005 NHL Draft.

The QMJHL previously was known as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before undergoing a name change in December 2023 to include Canada’s Maritime provinces.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
