Pittsburgh Penguins assistant Jacques Martin is a candidate for the head coaching job of the Buffalo Sabres, according to multiple reports.

Martin, 66, has been with the Penguins for the last six seasons, serving mostly as the assistant coach who works most closely with the team’s defense and penalty kill. His long NHL resume includes head coaching stops in St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida and Montreal.

Buffalo general manager Jason Botterill, who was assistant GM for the Penguins from 2009-14, fired coach Phil Housley after the Sabres went 33-39-10 this season.

Martin has also been linked to the vacant Ottawa Senators head coaching position.

Follow the Pittsburgh Penguins all offseason long.
