Robert Morris graduate Russ Olsen (Class of 1982) has made a seven-figure gift — called “transformative” by university officials — to boost several elements of the RMU men’s and women’s basketball programs.
The Olsen Basketball Excellence Fund will enhance special projects, nutrition initiatives, recovery tools, equipment and technology, facilities, travel and recruiting efforts.
The Robert Morris athletics program is challenging donors to match Olsen’s contribution by donating to the fund.
“We are profoundly thankful to Russ Olsen for his incredible generosity and vision,” Robert Morris athletic director Chris King said in a statement. “His commitment sets a precedent for others to follow. This matching challenge not only amplifies the impact of each contribution, but also empowers our administration and coaches to make strategic decisions that enhance our student-athletes’ experiences and the future of our athletics department. The support we receive today is pivotal for sustaining competitive excellence and will continue to benefit RMU for many years.”
