Robert Morris will open its 46th season of NCAA Division I basketball with a three-game road trip that will take the Colonials to Orlando, Fla., Lexington, Ky., and Athens, Ohio, before they finally return to the UPMC Events Center for the home opener.
The season starts Nov. 10 at Central Florida, followed by a game against Kentucky two days later in the Kentucky Classic, which continues at Ohio University on Nov. 15. Robert Morris’ final game in the Kentucky Classic is Nov. 19 against Mount St. Mary’s at home.
The Colonials are back on the road Nov. 27 at Davidson before opening Horizon League play Dec. 2 and 4 at Green Bay and Milwaukee. Overall, six of Robert Morris’ first seven games and 10 of the first 13 are away from home. The last in that stretch is Jan. 1 at Detroit Mercy, also a Horizon League game.
Robert Morris will play two more nonconference games at home — Dec. 9 against Lancaster Bible and Dec. 11 against Florida Gulf Coast.
After the Detroit Mercy game, five of the next seven — all conference games — are at home, starting Jan. 5 against Youngstown State.
The good news is Robert Morris officials are planning to welcome spectators back to the UPMC Events Center after playing in nearly empty arenas last season.
“As a coaching staff we’re excited about the challenges that await with our 2021-22 schedule,” coach Andy Toole said. “I know our student-athletes are looking forward to the challenge, as well, and we’re also looking forward to welcoming fans back to the UPMC Events Center and fostering our home court atmosphere.”
