Duke's Alex Smalley wins Sunnehanna Amateur
Duke golfer Alex Smalley became the fifth golfer and first since Rickie Fowler in 2007 and ‘08 to win consecutive Sunnehanna Amateur titles.
Smalley shot his second-consecutive 4-under-par 66 to grab the 66th annual tournament Saturday at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown. He finished at 10-under 270.
He was five shots better than Oklahoma’s Garrett Reband, who finished 5-under 275.
Smalley began the final round tied with Texas’ Spencer Soosman, who shot a 6-over 76.
Yale’s James Nicholas finished third with a 4-under 276.
Franklin Regional graduate and Notre Dame commit Palmer Jackson had his best round of the tournament, shooting a 3-under 67 to finish tied for 22nd at 2-over 282.
