Despite rainy and windy condition, Spencer Soosman (University of Texas) soared into the lead of the 66th Annual Sunnehanna Amateur at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown.

Soosman shot a 2-under par 68 and enters Friday’s third round with a 5-under par, 135, and a two shot lead over Hunter Wolcott (University of Tennessee), who shot a 3-under, 67. He is 3-under, 137, after two rounds.

Trevor Werbylo (University of Arizona) is tied for second with Wolcott at 3-under. He shot a 2-under, 68.

Tied for fourth is returning champion Alex Smalley (Duke) and first-round leader James Nicholas (Yale), each at 2-under, 138.

The field is loaded with some of the top college players in the country.

Franklin Regional graduate Palmer Jackson (Notre Dame), who was tied for eighth after a 1-under, 69, fired a 4-over, 74, and dropped 33rd place at 3-over, 143.

Connor Schmidt (Peters Township) and Oakmont’s Sean Knapp dropped back to 90th at 10-over, 150.

Greensburg’s Kevin Fajt dropped to 15-over par, 155. The trio has some work on movie day (round three on Friday), if they hope to play in the final round on Saturday.
