Pittsburgh Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo (73) lines up against the Buffalo Bills during an NFL wild-card playoff football game against the Buffalo Bills, Monday, Jan. 15, 2024 in in Orchard Park, NY.

Editor’s note: From now until the first practice of training camp at Saint Vincent College, TribLive is running through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 90-man roster, looking at each player and assessing his outlook for the 2024 season. The breakdown will run in alphabetical order with at least two players each day between June 14 and July 25. Contract data courtesy spotrac.com.

G Isaac Seumalo

Experience/age: Ninth season/30

Contract status: $10,191,666 cap hit this season, signed through 2025

The past: With the Steelers intent on adding experience to their offensive line in 2023, they signed Seumalo to a three-year, $24 million contract. Of the top 10 players in terms of salary cap hits for 2024, Seumalo and right guard James Daniels are the only two on the offensive side of the ball.

With eight years of NFL experience, Seumalo is the leader of the offensive line. He owns a Super Bowl ring from his seven years in Philadelphia, and he has appeared in the Super Bowl twice. The only players on the roster with more NFL experience are Russell Wilson, Chris Boswell, Cordarrelle Patterson and Cameron Heyward.

Seumalo started all 17 games last season and provided a steadying presence on the interior of the line. Seumalo was penalized just once in 1,104 snaps, didn’t allow a sack and was charged with giving up five quarterback hits, according to Pro Football Focus.

Seumalo has started 77 games and appeared in 98 during his career.

2024 outlook: The 2023 season marked the second year in a row that Seumalo started every game. That is noteworthy because the previous time he started every game in a season was 2019.

Seumalo also is an important cog in the offensive line because the Steelers likely will be starting a rookie center in Zach Frazier, and if the Steelers move Broderick Jones to left tackle, Seumalo will be flanked by two relatively inexperienced players.

As the Steelers try to maintain continuity on the offensive line, Seumalo’s presence at left guard is reassuring for the organization.
