Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith begins to tackle Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley during the first quarter of Sunday’s game at Lincoln Financial Field. Barkley left the game because of a knee injury but returned in the second half.

PHILADELPHIA — Pittsburgh Steelers starting cornerback Donte Jackson and change-of-pace quarterback Justin Fields left Sunday’s game at the Philadelphia Eagles because of injury and did not return.

After the game, coach Mike Tomlin did not provide much in regards to the status of Jackson or Fields for Saturday’s AFC North showdown at the Baltimore Ravens.

Fields had an 8-yard carry during the second quarter and did not appear in the game after that. It was announced he was out of the game because of an abdomen injury, and later Fields was declared out.

Tomlin said Fields suffered the injury while sliding at the end of his run.

Jackson did not play after going down early in the second quarter because of a back injury. James Pierre took over in his place as the outside cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr.

Tomlin is expected to hold his weekly news conference Monday.

The Steelers lost 27-13.

Barkley leaves, comes back

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley also missed a significant portion of the first half with an injury to his right knee. On a carry from the Steelers’ 5 yard-line late in the first quarter, Minkah Fitzpatrick administered a hard tackle on Barkley.

A former Penn State star who leads the NFL in rushing, Barkley took the first two Philadelphia carries on its ensuing possession but did not play the rest of the first half. He was back on the field, though, when the third quarter began.

“Nothing crazy, little minor,” Barkley said after the game. “Get ready for next week.”

Fitzpatrick last season delivered a similar hit in a similar area of the body at a similar portion of the field to another top NFL running back, Nick Chubb. Chubb missed the remainder of the season, and some Cleveland Browns teammates suggested Fitzpatrick’s hit was dirty.

Barkley ended the game with 65 yards on 19 carries.
