Junior Sam Hartman found his way into the fast lane all season for the Seton Hill track and field team.

That meant he was probably on the fast track to postseason accolades, too.

Sure enough, the two-time national champion earned himself the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year. There wasn’t much of contest.

Hartman won NCAA Division II championships in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles and became the first Seton Hill men’s athlete to win a national title in the sport. He joins Mallory Sanner as the only national champs in the program. She won one title in 2015 and was the PSAC Field Athlete of the Year.

He had the best times in the region for both events after winning conference titles in both and winning most outstanding track athlete at the PSAC finals. Hartman also was the USTFCCA Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year.

His time of 50.50 seconds in the 400 hurdles is a school record. He ran a 13.88 to win the 110s.

Baseball

Gardner-Webb: Senior Patrick Ferguson (Central Catholic/North Huntingdon) was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region Second Team. Selected as a designated hitter, Ferguson hit .299, led the Bulldogs in RBIs and tied for the team lead with 15 home runs while starting 44 games. He also earned All-Big South First Team honors.

Seton Hill: Senior pitcher Ben Vicini signed a professional contract with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League. Vicini led the Griffins (39-8), who played in the NCAA Division II World Series, with six wins, 11 starts, 58.1 innings pitched and 71 strikeouts. He had only 10 walks. Vicini was named to the ABCA/Rawlings, D2CCA All-Region and PSAC West second teams.
