Tuesday night should be an exciting one at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver as The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will kick off its Pennsylvania swing of four races in five days with the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.
The World of Outlaws series also will race at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Thursday and Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday and Saturday for the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals.
As the series enters the Keystone State, there are a few World of Outlaws storylines to keep an eye on as the drivers take to the 4/10-mile track.
The Hanover team of Shark Racing will be looking for its first World of Outlaws win in Pa. as Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen look to capitalize on their home state appearance. Schuchart has won five races in 2020 in 23 starts and has also recorded 17 top five finishes. He’s sitting third in the standings, 14 points behind leader Brad Sweet.
Allen is looking for his first career win still and has tallied two top five finishes and seven top 10’s in 2020. He’s currently ninth in the World of Outlaw points standings.
As drivers enter the Pa. Swing, with about half of the World of Outlaws season remaining, the top five drivers are within 100 points of leader Brad Sweet. The Grass Valley, Calif. native is two points ahead of Donny Schatz and has earned seven wins in 2020. But the Kasey Khane Racing driver has recorded a DNF three races in a row, which is a first for Sweet since 2013.
Schatz has started to nip Sweet’s heels recently after a recent streak of success. He has recorded four top five finishes in a row and has earned three runners-up. That streak could continue this week as Schatz has won at all three tracks in Pa. and has eight wins at Lernerville alone.
There are a few other drivers who could be in the mix Tuesday night. David Gravel from Watertown, Conn., has a streak of eight straight top 10 finishes heading into Tuesday, including his second win of the year at Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin on July 11. Gravel also won the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville last year.
Kyle Larson also is on a hot streak entering Tuesday’s race at Lernerville. In his last 33 dirt racing events, which includes midgets and sprint cars, he has 20 wins and hasn’t finished worse than sixth. Four of those 20 wins are World of Outlaws wins.
Both Gravel (July 23) and Sweet (September 28) won events at Lernerville Speedway in 2019.
Racing will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m.
