Franklin Regional eighth-grader Liam Bernadowski created this bust of the Pirates Andrew McCutchen, and ended up attending batting practice on Aug. 1, 2023, to meet McCutchen and get it autographed.

When Franklin Regional eighth-grader Liam Bernadowsi was sculpting a bust of the Pirates Andrew McCutchen, he didn’t think it would lead to a chance to meet the MLB ballplayer.

But after Franklin Regional Middle School teacher Bruce Palmiscno sent a photo of the sculpture to the Pirates, they extended an invitation for Bernadowski, his older brother Max and Palmiscno to attend the Aug. 1 batting practice. They met with McCutchen, who signed the sculpture.
